official reports say they are now dead.
though I make no official comment myself. these things sadly happen every day and once in a while are they deemed 'important' enough for the news to make much fuss on.. also, I'm kinda against them as much (well, a bit more but only a bit) with people that want to hunt them down and kill them. killer is wrong regardless of your 'cause'. (but I'm bias as i'm a pacifist for quite some years now ^_^)

It seems very blaisé and disrespectful to say "These things sadly happen every day". It was important and newsworthy because it's NOT every day such things happen.

I see your point but innocent blood is spilled every day, all other the world in many places people don't expect such things to happen and I find the news for one, very disrespectful by it's own choice about which events are 'important' enough. Jyllands-Posten didn't seam to get as much news and that ended up with about 200 deaths. in fact, the whole Charlie Hebdo thing started when them reprinted the Jyllands-Posten cartoons... I see you point and all but this is just part of that same attack but this part seams to be deamed more important which is something I find disrespectful.. all loss of life, reguardless of who or why, it's a tragedy

'Manicman', we must be reading different newspapers and watching different channels because the coverage of the Danish cartoons was huge as I recall. However this is not the time or the place to get into debates about comparing the level of coverage. People died in awful circumstances this week and their families are still grieving. Show some respect.

You and Sacco (http://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2015/jan/09/joe-sacco-on-satire-a-response-to-the-attacks) have made two of the most intelligent responses to this I have seen, thanks Lew.
